This can be a great way to give your tree a new theme this year, or it could even be a great Christmas present for someone else! And believe it or not, this is a fairly simple thing to do that will only take a few minutes…which is perfect for those who live busy lives!

The materials that you are going to need to include

  • Scissors
  • A glass bulb ornament that you can easily find at just about any store anywhere during the Christmas season
  • Ribbon
  • A drinking glass that is the same circumference as the glass bulb ornament
  • A picture you wish to put into the ornament
  • Very thin wire to keep this picture looking good
  • Pencil or pen for tracing

To start making your own photo glass ornaments, you will need to have all your materialism gathered. On a clean, solid surface, you are going to place the picture that you want to use, then sit the glass drinking cup on top of this. Taking your pencil or pen, trace around the bottom of the glass on the picture to see where you need to cut this.

Once that is complete, then cut the photo in the circle shape that you have traced. Now, on the glass bulb, you are going to want to gently remove the top of the ornament that has the hook on it. In most cases, you can easily remove this by just prying up one of the tabs that hold it is place. Place this aside, as you will need this later!

With your picture in hand, gently roll this so that you can make this picture small enough to slide into the top of the glass bulb. You will find that this can be tricky, but it is doable. The idea is that by doing this gently, once you place it inside the bulb, the picture is going to pop back out and be a circular picture inside the round bulb.

Some people find that this works great and that they are ready to get this hung. However, for those who find their picture will not stay where it should, you may take a little piece of the wire with some glue on this and run it along the back of the picture, allowing the wire to stick up through the bulb. From there, reattach the top of the glass ornaments, and then use ribbon along the top as a way to have this hang onto your tree.

As far as making your own glass ornaments go, this is fairly simple and can be a great way to make your tree more personal with memories from the years that mean the most to you. Just be sure to be careful as you are dealing with glass!
